The company will retain its existing business and expand into the Southwest Zone to serve members in all 67 counties

Philadelphia, Pa.

AmeriHealth Caritas, a national leader in Medicaid managed care and other integrated health care solutions for those most in need, announced today that it has been notified by Pennsylvania's Department of Human Services (DHS) of its intent to contract with AmeriHealth Caritas to provide Medical Assistance (Medicaid) managed care and services in all 67 Pennsylvania counties under DHS' HealthChoices program. The new contract will begin January 1, 2017.

In addition to continuing to serve members in HealthChoices' Southeast, Lehigh/Capital, Northeast and Northwest Zones, AmeriHealth Caritas will now also serve members in the 14-county Southwest Zone. The Southwest Zone includes approximately 442,000 Medical Assistance beneficiaries in Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Bedford, Blair, Butler, Cambria, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Somerset, Washington and Westmoreland counties.

"It is a privilege to continue our partnership with DHS as we work together to remove barriers to health care and services for Pennsylvanians most in need," said Paul A. Tufano, chairman and chief executive officer of AmeriHealth Caritas. "Core to our mission is that every individual should have access to quality care and services, and for more than 30 years we have been working in communities across the Commonwealth to make that possible. We are excited to expand our mission and now also serve members in the Southwest Zone."

AmeriHealth Caritas has been recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) for the early adoption of its Multicultural Health Care Distinction and the delivery of culturally appropriate care and quality improvement interventions serving diverse populations. AmeriHealth Caritas currently holds four of the eight Multicultural Health Care Distinctions in the nation, two of which were received by its Pennsylvania Medicaid health plans.

AmeriHealth Caritas has participated in Pennsylvania's HealthChoices program since its inception in 1997. In addition to Pennsylvania, AmeriHealth Caritas provides full-risk integrated Medicaid managed care services in Florida, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Nebraska, South Carolina and the District of Columbia.
