Managing high-risk pregnancy

Bright Start® is designed to improve birth outcomes and reduce pregnancy-related complications through early prenatal education and intervention.

Children and women of childbearing age comprise a large part of the Medicaid population. That is why AmeriHealth Caritas works toward better mother-child health outcomes and pediatric preventive care.

Because early prenatal care is the first step toward a healthy, full-term delivery, pregnant AmeriHealth Caritas members are automatically enrolled in the Bright Start program.

Bright Start is designed to improve birth outcomes and reduce pregnancy-related complications through early prenatal education and intervention. The program uses the Institute for Clinical Systems Improvement guidelines for the treatment and management of at-risk pregnancy.

The results are proven:

  • AmeriHealth Caritas affiliates have improved performance among pregnant women who receive 81 percent or more of their expected prenatal care visits.
  • All AmeriHealth Caritas plans rank above the national Medicaid average.
  • Two AmeriHealth Caritas plans rate above the NCQA Medicaid 75th percentile.
