Mentor-Protégé Program
Our Mentor-Protégé program reinforces our commitment to supplier diversity by providing tools, resources, and mentorship directly to businesses that are owned by minorities, women, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and veterans. Through executive guidance and support, this program enables protégés to build their businesses while creating more impact in the communities we serve.
Our Mentor-Protégé program provides:
- Guidance on business processes, including accounting, marketing, and strategic planning
- Assistance with navigating bidding, acquisition, and procurement processes
- Support for strategic planning and business development
Mentors receive training to support their experience in the program. Training includes modules about unconscious bias, the benefits of diversity, the impact of supplier diversity, and how to be intentional in cultivating diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Mentor-Protégé program testimonials:
“My mentor at AmeriHealth Caritas was a transformative influence on my professional journey... By the end of the program, I had not only grown professionally and been challenged to expand my skills and knowledge, but also formed a deeply valued, lifelong relationship with my mentor. This connection was built on a foundation of mutual transparency and empathy, fostering a level of insight and understanding I had never anticipated.”
Shawn Gibbons, CEO, CI Solutions
“AmeriHealth Caritas’ Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion division has been very helpful with lending support to Illuminated Hearts as a minority woman-owned business and small diverse-owned business. They sought us out, making concerted efforts to provide the tools, resources, and education needed to support our growth and development. We have the utmost gratitude and appreciation for the DEI division… participating in the mentorship program has been an incredibly enriching experience.”
Kionna Perry, CEO & Co-Founder, Illuminated Hearts

Mia Mendoza, Founder and Owner of Mendoza Group, Inc., says much of her business’ success comes from lessons learned through AmeriHealth Caritas' Mentor-Protégé program — even before the two companies began to do business with one another. The program inspired Mendoza Group to make care the heart of its work, too.
